Definition of Diabetes- a chronic medical condition where the body is not able to process blood sugar.
There are to types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2.
Type 1
Type 1 diabetes is usually developed during childhood. Type 1 diabetes is caused by the body's own immune system attacking insulin and/or insulin producing cells. This will cause a lack of energy because insulin allows the body to process sugar, and sugar is the body's main source of energy.
Type 2
Type 2 diabetes is usually developed in obese adults. People with type 2 diabetes are more likely to have strokes. Type 2 diabetes is caused by obesity and the body's loss of the ability to process sugars and insulin. Type 2 diabetes may also be caused by the body stopping or decreasing the amount of insulin produced by the pancreas.
